Jesus teaches (Sermon on the Mount)
Luke 6:20-49 Matthew 5-7
Jesus travelled all over Galilee, preaching the gospel of God's kingdom, healing every disease and infirmity and driving out demons. His fame spread quickly and great crowds followed him wherever he went.
One day as usual a large
crowd of people followed him.
Seeing the crowd, Jesus went up a hill and sat down. He began to speak to the people. He taught them many things. His long sermon is known as the 'Sermon on the Mount'.
When Jesus looked around him, he could see that most of the people were poor and depressed. Jesus told them not to be sad and comforted them saying that God would bless them. He said
"Blessed are the poor for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
Blessed are those who mourn
for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the merciful for
they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the sons of God.
Blessed are those who suffer for my sake for their reward is great in heaven".
